COP 28: A New Opportunity for Change

The 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from November 30th to December 12th, 2023. This conference will be a significant opportunity for countries worldwide to come together and discuss how to address climate change.

One of the key topics of COP 28 will be the implementation of the Paris Agreement, the international treaty aimed at limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. Participating countries will discuss how to advance in meeting their emission reduction commitments and how to provide support to developing countries so they can adapt to the effects of climate change.

Another crucial issue will be climate finance. Developed countries committed to providing $100 billion annually in climate financing to developing countries by 2020. However, this target has not been met. Participating countries will discuss how to increase climate financing to assist developing countries in dealing with climate change.

COP 28 will also be an opportunity to discuss new solutions to climate change. Participating countries will explore the potential of carbon capture and storage technologies, renewable energies, and other solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Citizens worldwide can help pressure their governments to take ambitious climate action at COP 28. They can do so by participating in protests and events, writing to their elected representatives, and talking to their friends and family about the importance of climate action.
